Duncan MacAlpin… Final Post

This is Duncan’s final post and leads to the opening of his book Bound To A Warrior.

It isn’t easy to keep aware of the soldiers while not letting them see that I watch, but that’s what I do. I can’t draw their attention or I’ll hamper my chance for escape. What disturbs me is their constant interest in the dark-haired lassie. They watch her and whisper and I wonder what they whisper about. Are they making plans? Do they mean her harm?

Though soldiers threatened her of helping those in need, she manages to do so without attracting notice. She keeps the grueling pace they have set for the group without difficulty and it makes me think that she is used to traveling on foot. I can’t help but wonder about her, who she is, where she comes from, does she have family, does a husband search for her?

If she were my wife I would travel to hell itself to free her and keep her safe. The thought startles me for I have no time to give to a woman, to make promises that I do not know if I can keep. My mission is important and it must come first, above all else.

So why then do I chance taking her with me when I make my escape?

The soldiers suddenly start shouting and separating people, women cry out when their husbands are lead away from them and shackled in pairs. Young lads frantically reach out to their mothers as they are ripped away from them and they too are sealed together with iron cuffs.

I wish there is something I can do to stop this torment, but the only way I can is to escape and see that the true king of Scotland takes the throne and puts an end to this madness.

I know my turn will be soon and I must act before I am fettered to another.

One of the soldiers grabs the dark-haired lassie by the arm and surprisingly propels her toward me. He shoves her at me and though I reach out to catch her, she rights herself before she reaches my arms.

What happens next stuns us both.

Another soldier, his grin wide, appears with a set of shackles and laughingly shakes them in front of our faces.

I can’t believe he means to shackle us together. Why when the men and lads are being paired do they bind a woman to me? And though I had every intention of taking her with me, I by no means wanted her bound to me. It would make escape all the more difficult.

When they finished and walked away I looked at her and though I saw fear in her lovely eyes, I also saw courage. A good sign, since she would need it for what I had planned.

The soldiers ordered the group forward, but not me and the woman. Two soldiers walked us in a different direction and that’s when I knew time was not on my side. There was only one reason we would be separated from the others… they planned to kill us.

But they made one mistake… they bound her to a warrior.

Hot or Not?

I’m curious about love scenes. Do you like your love scenes detailed or light with some left to the imagination?

I’m asking because I had a conversation with some friends about this and naturally it involved into a debate with a line drawn down the middle. So I thought I’d ask here on my website and see what you all had to say. If you prefer you can e-mail me privately at donna@donnafletcher.com. I’d really like your opinion on this and so would my friends. They want to see who wins!

As for me, I like a variety from hot to sweet and everything in between.

Duncan MacAlpin Part Two

Here’s the second part of Duncan MacAlpin’s journey, in his own words, that leads up to the beginning of his book Bound To A Warrior (first book in the Warrior King series) in stores in August.

The soldiers march us again and I know I must escape before we reach our destination wherever that may be. I should have escaped shortly after my capture and not risk more danger, but the dark-haired lassie has interfered. She caught my attention at first glance and I cannot stop glancing her way. I’m not the only who finds her appealing. It’s disturbing to see the way the soldiers leer at her. It does not bode well, not at all. I fear for her safety causing me to linger too long in my own dilemma.

She does appear a strong one, helping those who stumble along the rutted path. No doubt she noticed the way the soldiers’ stare at her, for she keeps her eyes turned away from them. I don’t know if I can leave her behind knowing what the soldiers most likely have planned for her.

My escape would be easy on my own, though she is such a small bit of thing that she would be no burden to carry. I could easily fling her over my shoulder and run miles without difficulty. Besides I cannot fathom leaving her to such a horrible fate.

I watch her help a young lad who has fallen. Her movements are graceful and her words tender. I listen more closely as she calms him, her voice comforting and much too sultry. It wraps around me like sweet, thick honey I’m eager to taste. The thought jars me and will get me in trouble if I linger on it.

If I did take her with me when I escaped I would need to be rid of her soon enough, unless she was grateful and wished to reward me. I shook my head at my own foolish musings. I would not free her of one dilemma only to place her in another. I would see her to a safe place and be done with it. I have dallied enough, my mission needs my attention and that is where I must focus.

I was about to turn my head when I saw a soldier approach her from behind. His hands shot out giving her a hard shove that sent her stumbling. She fell to her knees but was quick to right herself. The soldier scolded her for helping the lad and warned her to keep to herself or suffer the consequences.

I hoped she would be wise and comply and she did. Her head lowered with each nod she gave and it remained that way, her glance kept at the ground. The soldier grinned and gave her another unnecessary shove. She stumbled but remained on her feet.

If I planned my escape right there just might be time to give the soldier what he not only deserved, but I was itching to give him. Then I could grab the dark-haired lassie and dash off with her to freedom. It was a plan I was certain would succeed.

Older Titles

Many of you have requested that my older titles be made available as e-books. I’m in the process of doing just that and I must say it’s wonderful revisiting the characters and stories. I haven’t read most of them in years and I’m thoroughly enjoying each and every one.

I hope to have included in my new website design my own little bookshop where my older titles will be available as e-books. It looks like the next e-book to follow San Fransisco Surrender will be The Buccaneer. It’s my one and only pirate book and a big favorite of mine and with the amount of mail I get on it a favorite of readers as well. And since I’ve had so many requests about the sequel to Untamed Fire, I will be offering Untamed Fire as a free e-book for a limited time with the sequel to follow soon after.

I will keep you posted on how things are going. If there is a particular older title of mine you’ve enjoyed and would like to see as an e-book let me know.
